One consequence of having everything you need with you in your car is that it makes it hard to see out the back window. Even with my rear window foam cover removed, the suitcases on the rear shelf block most of the view. To get around this, I started looking for a rear-view camera that displays the video on the rear-view mirror. I had also been thinking about getting a forward-facing dashcam anyway, to help me in case of an accident.
After shopping around a bit, I ended up buying the Toguard 10″ 1080P Mirror Dashcam, which has worked out great. A few reasons I like this particular mirror dashcam:
- It records forward and backward (1080P in one direction and 720P in the other, you choose which is which) simultaneously, and records to a Micro SD card. You can store a ton of video without overwriting anything, depending on the size of the card you use.
- The video quality is great, and the resolution is plenty for viewing on the mirror.
- The night vision sounded like a gimmick, but I really can see better in the dark through this camera than I can out the window.
- You control it through the mirror touchscreen, which is really intuitive.
- The standard rear camera cable is long enough to route along the sport bars from the rear view mirror, out the back window, and up onto where I mounted the camera on my Gobi Stealth rack.
- With one button, the screen turns off and it turns into a pretty decent regular rear-view mirror.
- Excellent customer service; when I had an issue with my first camera, they replaced it quickly, for free.
